Memorials
Many memorial have been given by members of the congregation in memory of loved ones, and these have been dedicated to the Glory of God. The East Window was erected in memory of Rev. W. Fanning Harris, who gave his life in World War I. The memorial wording can be found at the bottom of the window, just above the Reredos of the Altar.
The West Window was erected in 1960. The centre section portrays St. Luke, and is in memory of the Rev. Canon A.D. Currie, who served the Diocese from 1910 to 1957, being the rural Dean of Red Deer for two periods, and honorary assistant priest of St. Luke's during the Fifties.
In the outer sections, four medallions depicting the Signs' of the four
Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, are in memory of fifteen
faithful members of the
Parish. A notice below the window on the north side describes this window in
detail.
Underneath the West Window is a memorial to one hundred and thirty-four
members of St. Luke's, who served their country in World War I, twenty-two
of which did not return.
On the South Wall of the Nave, near the Choir Room door, is a memorial to
World War II members of St. Luke's who served their country. These totalled
ninety-two, of which six did not return.
The Organ is dedicated to all these men of the two World Wars; a plate
denoting this can be found on the south side of the Organ.
The paneling around the Chancel is a gift from St. Luke's Junior Auxiliary,
and was erected in 1936.
The Altar was given in 1965 in loving memory of Lorne Oatway, Vestry member
and Rector's Warden The Reredos above the Altar is in memory of John Alfred
Carswell, and was given by his family in 1936. JA. Carswell served many
years as a Warden The Altar Rails are in memory of Kenda II Miller who gave
his life for his country in World War L He was killed in 191 7, aged
seventeen years.
Flags above the Chancel appeared in 1940. The Flags comprise the present
Canadian Flag, the previous one, the Union Jack, and the Flag of the
Anglican Church of Canada.
The Church Doors, in memory of Canon CA. McMullen, were given by St. Luke's
A.C.W. in 1983.
A beautiful stone Font is located in the southwest corner of the Nave.
The beautiful Flower Calendar on the north wall of the Nave is in memory of
Dorothy Williams.
Memorial plates denoting the various gifts to the Church can be found as you view the building, and many memorials can be found on the north and south walls of the Nave and Chancel
According to recorded information, a small metal box was enclosed in a cavity of the Cornerstone, containing the following - Manitoba Masonic Constitution, copies of the Calgary Herald, the Calgary Tribune, the Edmonton Bulletin, the Innisfail Free Lance, the Manitoba Free Press, the first issue of the Edmonton post, and current Canadian Coins of the day.
